TX-20 with ASR+GRL and PST

a sketch I did today. this TX-20 is armed with the standard ASR-10 which has been equipped with an under barrel grenade launcher. with his left hand he's drawing a pistol from the left hip component, which is obviously been converted into a holster for the small weapon.

the basic design of the ASR-10 Maverick was based on the M4/M16 family. this is most obvious in the stock and magazine (even though these two parts could be swapped out for others...) though the receiver itself is also originally based on it. the barrel shroud echos design elements of the TX-20 itself and the object jutting from the top of the barrel is the gun's sensor.

the under barrel grenade launcher is loosely based on the M203 with the main changes to the design being done to make it more "mecha friendly" that is there's no physical trigger (instead it's triggered from the parent gun's receiver) and features a 2 round clip. like the M203 the GRL here echos the barrel shroud/hand guard of the parent gun.

you may notice that the barrel for the ASR-10 is not much smaller the the GRL's barrel. this is actually intentional, the walls of the ASR-10's barrel is very thick so that it won't be easily damaged or deformed during combat. this is a common element in my firearm designs. the GRL's barrel is restricted in width because of the gun it's linking up to and the clip placement. also due to the fact that it only fires in single shots and has to contain less pressure during firing, the launcher can afford to have thinner walls of the barrel.

the pistol being drawn isn't any particular type, in fact it wasn't previously designed -unlike the other components on the page. the pistol serves as a solid backup weapon that is easy to store on/in a mecha. the hip holster is one of several variants of the TX-20's hip components with the most common version being a storage unit for additional clips for the mecha's primary weapon.
